Our Simple Pleasures

celebrating life one moment at a time

My entire life I have LOVED to read.   I devoured books growing up.  I loved Nancy Drew, Agatha Christie, and Judy Blume.

I love to read. I always have.  I’m always searching for good books.  I love a good story.

My favorite authors as an adult include: Theodore Geisel (Dr. Seuss, Theo Lesieg), Maya Angelou, Jodi Picoult, Anita Shreve, John Sandford, Audrey Niffenegger, Khaled Hosseini, Stieg Larsson, Kien Nguyen… to name a few.

I used to love these authors, but I have not been impressed with their last several books:  Patricia Cornwell, James Patterson…

I hope to pass on my love of reading to my boys…

I have slipped once again in recording my books.  I guess having 2 kids is a bit much to handle this year!

I have read…

  1. Jodi Picoult’s The Storyteller
  2. Khaled Hosseini’s And The Mountains Echoed

Not to mention the books Hubby or  I read Punky before bed…

I’ll try this again.  I love to read, but man, I am just so tired at night!   Maybe once I get out of the first trimester of this pregnancy I’ll get better.  🙂  Maybe.  One can hope, right?

  1. Breaking Silence by Linda Castillo
  2. Out of my Mind by Sharon Draper
  3. The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins
  4. Fifty Shades of Grey by E.L. James
  5. Fifty Shades of Darker by E.L. James
  6. Fifty Shades of Freed by E.L. James

I’m slipping with my reading.   I blame it on my tiring new job, my time I spend at the gym, and just how plain-old-tired I am when I drop into bed each night!

So far, I’ve read:

  1. Saving Max by Antoinette van Heugten
  2. Sing me Home by Jodi Picoult
  3. Firefly Lane by Kristin Hannah
  4. The Postcard Killers by James Patterson
  5. Hold Still by Nina LaCour
  6. A Soft Place to Land by Susan Rebecca White
  7. The Red Door by Charles Todd
  8. How to be an American Housewife by Margaret Dilloway
  9. Safe Haven by Nicholas Sparks
  10. Pray For Silence by Linda Castillo
  11. Fly Away Home by Jennifer Weiner

January 2010

  1. The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo by Stieg Larsson  I can’t wait to pick up the second book of this trilogy!
  2. The Pioneer Woman’s Cookbook by Ree Drummond – I bought a few of these as Christmas gifts since I love PW’s blog.  Wow!   Great cookbook!
  3. The Girl who Plays with Fire by Steig Larsson- book 2!  I am loving it so far.  (I’m about 1/2 way through)  Number three comes out in May 2010!   Yay!
  4. Deeper Than The Dead by Tami Hoag – I CANNOT put this book down!  I am losing sleep.   I can’t stop thinking about it, and for the life of me, I CANNOT figure out who is the killer……it’s killing me!!!   I shall finish it soon!

February 2010

  1. Alex Cross’s Trial by James Patterson – Very cool book!  Loved it!
  2. Rough Country by John Sandford – A Virgil Flowers book.  I liked it!   I was scared to read it as I love Lucas Davenport books, and I didn’t know if Sandford could pull off another intriguing series at the same caliber…. but he did!

March 2010

  1. House Rules by Jodi Picoult – Not very impressed.  I figured out really early in the story.  I usually love her books…just not this one.
  2. Rough Country by John Sandford
  3. Sarah’s Key by Tatiana De Rosnay
